Graduate Academic Programs


Master of Science in Clinical Herbal Medicine

MUIH’s program is the only M.S. Clinical Herbal Medicine program offered by a regionally accredited university. Graduates of this program are prepared to apply the principles, practices, and concepts in herbal medicine to the development and implementation of clinical strategies and real-world solutions. Students integrate scientific evidence with tradition and practical herbal experiences for integration into the contemporary healthcare environment. 

Master of Science in Herbal Product Design & Manufacture

MUIH offers the only M.S. Herbal Product Design and Manufacture degree in the U.S. Graduates of this program are prepared with the skills and knowledge in herbal medicine and scientific practice and research needed to contribute to the growing field of herbal supplement development and manufacturing. Students develop expertise combining the abilities of medicinal plant researcher and herbalist with that of a medicine maker.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Cannabis Science: Therapeutics, Product Design, and Quality Assurance

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Cannabis Science: Therapeutics, Product Design, and Quality Assurance is one of the few graduate programs in the U.S. to focus on cannabis and to support this rapidly growing industry. The program educates students about cannabis-based products with an emphasis on health effects, safety, formulation, and quality assurance. The program addresses CBD-dominant hemp-based dietary supplements and wellness products, as well as THC-dominant medical and recreational marijuana. The program is 15 credits, can be completed in 1 year, and is delivered fully online.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Herbal Studies

MUIH’s program is the only graduate certificate program in herbal medicine offered by a regionally accredited university. This program provides the herbal enthusiast with a foundational knowledge of herbal sciences, as well as an understanding of wellness-based models of healthcare. Graduates are prepared with the skills and knowledge to create greater health, wellness, and vitality for themselves and others using herbs, food, and an increased awareness of the natural world. 

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Chinese Herbs

The program provides licensed acupuncturists with the opportunity to add the use of Chinese herbs to their practice, and to broaden their skill base and their ability to offer patients an alternative or enhancement to treatment with needles. This unique program integrates Constitutional Five Element diagnosis into a deep understanding of Classical Chinese Medical perspectives. Graduates are eligible to sit for certification exams offered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
