Dr. Sharon Jennings-Rojas has a 33-year career in the field of acupuncture, herbal medicine, healthcare advocacy, access and the broader spectrum of community healthcare and outreach.

Professional Narrative

Dr. Sharon Jennings-Rojas is the Department Chair of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine at Maryland University of Integrative Health and a leader in community health advocacy. Her 33-year career in the field includes a strong emphasis in community outreach, healthcare access and advocacy. She has spearheaded numerous grassroots initiatives and has also served in a variety of clinical and administrative settings. Her work has spanned across a variety of agencies including the
US Military (various installations), the Department of Health (New York, Baltimore and Atlanta), the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation, the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene (Baltimore), the Department of Corrections and Federal Bureau of Prisons (Baltimore City and Howard County, Maryland) and the Sickle Cell Foundation and Support Group of Atlanta.

Since 2001, she has maintained a private practice providing compassionate care for individuals, families, and communities. As an extension of her practice, she served as an acupuncturist for the Howard County Health Department and, for the last 12 years, serves as the resident doctor of acupuncture and herbal medicine for the Howard County Detention Center. There, she delivers whole-person acupuncture and wellness services for residents, staff and the administration.

Sharon earned her Doctorate in 2018 and her Masters Degree in Acupuncture in 2001. She has been a Registered Trainer for the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association for the last 30 years.

My mission and passion is to serve the underserved and under-represented while folding all people into the same, or similar, health care conversations and activities. I am an unapologetic cheerleader for all people and access and delivery of "The People's Medicine".
