Laurel, Md.— Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) announced today the 2021 student, faculty, and staff recipients of its annual awards. A virtual awards event was held to recognize the award nominees and recipients.
Fourteen graduating students in MUIH’s Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Health and Wellness Coaching, Health Promotion, Herbal Medicine, Integrative Health Studies, Nutrition, and Yoga Therapy programs received the Student Community Award, which honors those who have provided extraordinary service to their class or the University. MUIH is grateful for the special role they have played in the University community.
Faculty received awards and honors for their commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship. Adjunct research and health promotion faculty member Atiera Abatemarco was named as the University Marshal, who will play a lead role in MUIH’s upcoming Commencement ceremony. Associate Professor Dr. Eleonora Gafton and Adjunct Faculty Yevgeniya Libkhen, both in the nutrition and integrative health department, received the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Bhodi Tims, Program Director of Herbal Product Design and Manufacture and Cannabis Science, received the Faculty Excellence and Innovation in Service Award.
Lawrence McGill, Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, received the inaugural T. James Truby Community Service Award. This award honors an employee who is providing outstanding service to the local, regional, or national community. James Truby was a long-time MUIH Board member and supporter of MUIH. He was fiercely committed to community service as evidenced by his active involvement, leadership position roles, and support of many non-profit organizations.
The virtual awards event also featured highlights from some recent graduates who shared their path to integrative health and how they are using their degrees to impact the health and wellness of their communities.
MUIH will hold its 2020-2021 Commencement Ceremony in person on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Lyric Theater in Baltimore, MD. This ceremony will celebrate the graduating classes of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. MUIH looks forward to safely returning to an in-person ceremony and providing graduates and their families with the opportunity to participate in this traditional and special celebration.
