Laurel, Md.— Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) announced today that it will offer four (4) free professional and continuing education courses to mental health providers. This is in recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month and National PTSD Awareness Month, and the critical role that mental health providers offer to the healthcare field, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MUIH is committed to supporting the wellbeing of mental health providers, and as a token of appreciation for their challenging work, is offering these professional continuing education courses throughout June. The courses highlight a holistic approach to mental wellness: The Philosophy and Science of Wellbeing, PTSD in Client Relationships, Microbiome and Mental Health, and Case Study of Anxiety. These featured courses are delivered online, on-demand, and are self-paced, to provide flexible and convenient learning opportunities for the busy schedules of integrative health and healthcare professionals.

Reports from the World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Disaster Distress Hotline, among others, have indicated significant increases in the last year in stress, anxiety, depression, substance use, thoughts of suicide, and the use of mental health services.

“This has been an unprecedented year of collective mental and emotional trauma having to navigate a global pandemic and social injustice. Trauma comes in many forms and the health implications are complex, which is why now more than ever we’re exploring ways we can support integrative health and healthcare professionals in preserving their mental wellbeing while providing them with additional education to gain expertise to be equipped to offer healing through trauma in their practice. In honor of both Mental Health Awareness and PTSD Awareness Months, we’re featuring relevant learning opportunities related to these topics to raise awareness on this widespread issue with solutions to move through this experience with a sense of resiliency”, said Beth Romanski, director of professional and continuing education at MUIH.

MUIH’s Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) Department offers a wide range of professional development courses in flexible formats that provide integrative health and healthcare professionals with opportunities to sharpen their skills, develop new areas of expertise, and earn additional credentials.
