Maryland University of Integrative Health to launch online learning September 2013.

As you likely know, the number and scope of our academic programs has grown tremendously, in part as a response to the demand for high quality academic degrees and certificates in the expanding field of integrative health. Today, most of our students are in classes on weekends and we find they travel from all over the country to take advantage of the innovative and unique programs and courses we offer. This format also works beautifully for people who work full time, and for those with family responsibilities. And still…

Whenever we hold an open house or meet people at national conferences, or pick up the phone, we are asked the same question over and over again, “Do you offer online courses?” We can now proudly say yes! Starting in September, Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) will launch courses online as part of our academic offerings.

Below, we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions about our online learning plan:

Q: In which programs does MUIH plan to offer online courses?

A: Herbal Medicine, Nutrition, Acupuncture, and Oriental Medicine to start, followed by several others in the coming months and years.

Q: Will I be able to complete full degrees and certificates online?

A: If you start your online courses this fall, our intention is for you to be able to complete the following programs completely or primarily online:

  • Master of Science in Therapeutic Herbalism
  • Graduate Certificate in Herbal Studies
  • Graduate Certificate in Medical Herbalism
  • Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health

Q: How will the quality of online courses compare to face-to-face courses?

A: The online courses will be held to the same rigorous standards as our face-to-face courses. We have partnered with an online learning vendor that is very accomplished at creating and delivering courses to thousands of students worldwide. Our faculty are undergoing comprehensive training and are working side-by-side with highly skilled instructional designers. We fully believe that, with thoughtfulness and commitment, the MUIH academic and community experience can be translated to an online environment.

Q: What kind of approval is needed to offer academic programs online?

A: We are working with our accreditor, Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which must approve an institution’s first two programs delivered more than 50% online.

Q: How do I find out more?

A: Whether you are just curious, or ready to jump in with both feet, please contact our Office of Graduate Admissions at or 410-888-9048 ext. 6647. We will have more information on our website soon, but the best way to get up-to-the-minute details is to contact us.

Our goal is to prepare the future leaders and advocates for integrative health. We believe that our online learning experience will create the opportunities and connections necessary to reach that goal, while retaining the core teaching principles of MUIH.
