Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) seeks partnership opportunities that will support the health and wellness of the community while fostering the growth of our students in their chosen profession.

Since each of our degree programs have its own experiential learning requirements, they are outlined separately below:

  • Master of Acupuncture – Acupuncture students provide community acupuncture as a group for one of their classes. At various times we look for “Community Health Initiative (CHI)” partners who are willing to host these events, in which students would perform auricular (ear) acupuncture for your clients, patients or staff.
  • Doctor of Acupuncture – Doctoral students intern with a population that has specific health needs to broaden their education. Doctoral students are already licensed as acupuncturists.
  • MA in Health and Wellness Coaching – Our coaching program teaches students how to use techniques such as motivational interviewing to assist clients with goal setting, managing personal change, and accountability. Coaches do not provide medical advice, therapy, or any type of treatment. Their expertise is supporting positive behavior change in their clients. Coaching students will be looking for on-site or remote externships in the future.
  • MS in Health Promotion – Health Promotion students complete an extensive capstone project before graduation, which involves putting together a unique health education program from conceptualization to delivery. If you have a project idea that you haven’t had the resources to implement, perhaps a student can do it!
  • MS in Herbal Product Design and Manufacture – Students complete an internship during their program which focuses on building skills in the non-clinical application of herbal product design, manufacturing and research. Areas of interest include GMP, monograph research and ethnobotanical research to name a few. The program requires the student to complete 45 hours of experiential work over 14 weeks.
  • MS in Nutrition & Integrative Health – Nutrition students/alumni must complete 1000 supervised practice experience hours in clinical nutrition to qualify for the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) designation. We are always looking for opportunities for students/alumni to gain their practice experience hours or any additional nutrition-related opportunities, including stand-alone events where nutrition students can assist and gain practice experience.
  • MS in Yoga Therapy – Yoga Therapy students can do internships in a wide variety of settings at the end of their program. MUIH students are all established yoga teachers who are pursuing their master’s degree to elevate their career to the highest level. Yoga therapists perform highly tailored treatments for individuals and small groups, and sessions can be performed anywhere from bedside in a hospital setting, to partnering with physical therapy to integrate whole body and mind. Yoga therapy can also be used to help individuals with various conditions such as addiction, cancer, stroke, chronic pain, stress management, anxiety, depression and neurological conditions.

The following is common for all clinical programs:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) must be signed by the site’s representative and MUIH before our students can begin work (Health Promotion is the only exception).
  • We will be collecting research data to document the usage and effectiveness of our experiential learning programs whenever possible.
  • If your organization can provide a high-quality clinical experiential learning opportunity except that you lack space, our on-campus Natural Care Center teaching clinic might be able to provide the space for the student to work with your clients/patients.

Costs:

  • There are some costs involved. These costs are minimal when compared with the value of the services our students will provide.
  • While students perform their work unpaid, there are costs associated with clinical supervision. If we are providing a faculty member to supervise the students, the faculty member is paid a modest, instructional hourly rate.
  • There is also a cost if MUIH provides supplies such as acupuncture needles.

We welcome your ideas for new partnerships and are always happy to explore possibilities that forward mutual goals. Please contact our Director of Career Services, Robert Brooks, at to discuss how we might be able to assist the populations you serve.

Thank you for your interest in our programs and students.
