Degree Conferral and Graduation Fees Explained
A degree is conferred when a final degree audit is conducted which verifies all degree requirements have been successfully met. There is one degree conferral date per trimester. The conferral date is reflected on the academic transcript and diploma As soon as a degree is conferred the transcript can be used as credential evidence for prospective employers and schools, etc. Visit the Academic Calendar to find out the current trimester degree conferral date.
Candidates for all MUIH credentials including doctoral, master’s degrees and certificates will be assessed a $75 graduation fee. The fee covers administrative costs associated with completing the graduation review and diploma preparation. The fee is required regardless of whether or not you officially apply for graduation or participate in the commencement ceremony. Failure to pay the fee will result in a financial hold.
Students completing multiple degrees within the same trimester will only be charged one $75 fee. Students who complete multiple degrees over the course of different trimesters will be charged the $75 fee in the trimester in which each credential is earned.
Commencement vs. Graduation
Graduation (degree conferral) occurs when students successfully complete the requirements of a degree program. Students should reference the Graduation Application Instructions in the Data Portal for further information.
Commencement is an optional ceremony held once a year in May celebrating the graduation of MUIH students. Graduates attending commencement are responsible for purchasing their regalia for the ceremony. Commencement information can be found at: https://commencement.muih.edu/
